A terrific pool pump!!! June 11, 2007 V. Arrington (Tucson, AZ) 27 out of 27 found this review helpful
Amazon gives me a toy rating system for this pool pump - but it is everything but!! A terrific pump that I bought as a replacement for an 18 x 4 foot pool - as I was looking for a pump that I could really "vacuum" with. This filter was the ticket. It has ample power and suction to perform my task without a problem. The larger filter is wonderful in that now I no longer have to do the filter cleaning every other day but can go 1-2 weeks!! No more surface skimming either! I simply turn the pump on for 10 minutes before we get in and the skimmer basket combined with this pump does it for me!! In summary - I now love my pool a whole lot more!!
Great Pump at a Great Price September 6, 2008 MKleinba (Indiana) 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
After a few years, the smaller pump that came with my 18' Intex metal framed pool stopped working. I was tired of cleaning these smaller filters most everyday I must say. I researched pumps and it was just a little more to upsize to this pump and it had a larger filter, so I ordered it.
Since I had the connector hoses and skimmer already hooked up, installation was a breeze. When I turned on the pump I was blown away with how much water this pump moved. It was almost too much water movement for my 18' round pool, but I definitely will take too much power over not enough any day. Also, as is common with these paper filters they get clogged up with bugs, dirt, hair, suntan loition, etc, so the water flow will slow down.
When I used to clean my filter every day, now I just have to do it about 1 or twice a week and my filter has lasted a month now. This alone is worth the money in my opinion to upgrade to this pump. It is too bad that Intex doesn't include this pump in their larger pools. One thing to keep in mind with this pump though is tnat it does not come with a skimmer and only a plastic screened cap for the intake.
All in all I highly recommend this 2500 GPH pump for those who are frustrated with the smaller pumps or as a replacement pump for an intex pool.
A 'must have' for 15' and above Intex Pools August 4, 2007 Aida L. Oxenford (Pennsylvania) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I should have bought this pump years ago. It works like one you'd find in an in-ground pool. Terrific suction and you can clean your pool in a snap. I also bought the surface skimmer which cleans off the top of the pool in about 15 minutes! We don't use the hand held skimming net any more.
I just feel Intex should package this pump with all of their pools 15' and up because the 'toy pump' they package with it hardly circulates the water. 5 out of 5 from me!
Very powerful and amazingly quiet for the power! June 12, 2008 Billy Pate (Oklahoma) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I bought an easy set 15 foot round 4 foot deep pool that came with a small 800gph pump. It worked, but I didn't think it moved enough water to keep it clean. This pump is actually even more quiet than the 800gph. It cleans the whole pool so much better, and works very well with my saltwater system.
Some advice - buy some extra filters for it. The amount of dirt this thing collects in a week is just remarkable. Also, if you are buying this pump for an easy set 15 feet round or smaller (like me) you also HAVE to buy the hose adapters for a nice clean, water sealed connection.
A Great Filter Pump for an 18' Pool July 24, 2008 Robert S. (Oklahoma, United States) 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
We recently purchased an 18' x 4' circular Intex above-ground pool set that came with a woefully inadequate 1500 gph filter pump. It could barely manage to keep the skimmer running for an hour before the type "A" filter got too clogged, and the water was continually cloudy. So, we decided to upgrade to the 2500 gph pump. This pump works great for our ~7500 gallon pool. It takes type "B" filters, which we only need to rinse off once a day. Our pool water really is "Krystal Klear"! We run the skimmer all night long, and the skimmer grabs all the bugs and leaves that inevitably fall into our pool overnight. The vacuum has plenty of "oomph" with this pump. It's even less noisy than the 1500 gph pump we started with. Tips:
1) Vent the air out of the pump any time you start it up, or if you hear it get noisy (which can happen sometimes when starting the skimmer). If there is a lot of air trapped in the pump, it will not work well. The pump needs to be off when you vent it. "Pro tip": Just barely open the air-release valves when venting! (Trust me on this one!)
2) Rinse off your filter regularly. Once a day works well for us, but this will vary. This pump can push a *lot* of water through the filter, so if your pool is really dirty it can clog the filter quickly! You will know when the filter needs rinsing because the output pressure will drop off noticeably.
3) This pump has some serious suction! You'll probably want to turn it off when people--especially kids--are in the pool, just to be safe.
